01/03/2009 - Nashville, TN (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Todd Bertuzzi scored the game-winning goal with 23.4 seconds left, just minutes after setting up the game-tying score, lifting the Calgary Flames over the Nashville Predators, 3-2.
Daymond Langkow got the equalizer late in the third, and Miikka Kiprusoff kept it close throughout with 24 saves to get the win.
Curtis Glencross netted a first-period goal, and Craig Conroy picked up an assist on Bertuzzi's game-winner for his 500th NHL point for the first-place Flames, who won for the fifth consecutive time and moved four points clear of Vancouver in the Northwest Division standings.
Calgary has taken seven of the last eight games overall while earning at least a point in 10 straight games (7-0-3). The Flames also continued their strong play on the road, winning their third straight and for the seventh time in the last nine. David Moss added a pair of assists in the win.
Jerred Smithson and Jason Arnott lit the lamp for the Predators, who extended their losing streak to four games as the club has just three wins over its last 12 contests (3-8-1). Dan Ellis allowed three goals on 26 shots, letting the last two get by him over the final eight minutes.
The Flames capitalized on some tough forechecking from Bertuzzi to knot the game at two with 7:14 left to play. Bertuzzi gained possession of the puck in the right corner and snuck a pass behind the net to Langkow, who switched to the backhand and poked the puck up and over Ellis.
Then, in the waning moments of the third, Bertuzzi intercepted a careless pass deep in the Nashville zone and skated in on net from the right circle, sending a wrist shot over the left shoulder of Ellis for the game-winner.
Nashville got on the board first thanks to some good forechecking by Radek Bonk, who dug the puck out of the right corner and set up Smithson for a one- timer at the right circle.
Calgary tied the game with 1:16 left in the first following a nifty pass from Matthew Lombardi, who skated the puck behind the net and drew Ellis to the far post before dishing back to Glencross for an easy tally..
The Preds posted the lone goal of the middle period to take the 2-1 lead. Martin Erat raced into the left corner and flipped it back to a cutting J.P. Dumont at the left circle. Dumont faked a shot from in close and slid the disc across the goal-mouth to Arnott for a tip-in at 11:57.
Game Notes
Calgary is 3-0 against the Preds this season and has won six of the last eight in the series, including three of the last four encounters in Nashville...The Flames took the first of two straight on the road and will next visit Chicago on Sunday...Calgary is 10-7-1 as the visiting team this year...Nashville, which opened a five-game homestand Thursday with a loss to Vancouver, is still a solid 10-6-1 as the host this year with wins in three of their last five at Sommet Center.

Matt Kenseth And Kevin Harvick Favorites To Take NASCAR Nextel Cup Championship
(September 15)—The NASCAR season has hit the homestretch with the opening event on this year’s Chase for the Cup taking place this weekend at the Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire International Speedway. With 10 races remaining to determine the Cup Series champion, leading online sportsbook MySportsbook.com today announced odds on all 10 Chase qualifying drivers capturing the NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship.
One of the largest sportsbook sites on the Internet, MySportsbook.com currently lists the top two drivers in the point standings as the early favorites to win the Nextel Cup. Entering the Chase for the Cup with a slim five-point lead in the point standings, 2003 NASCAR champ Matt Kenseth has been made a slight favorite to win his second Cup at 7/2 betting odds. 2001 Cup Rookie of the Year Kevin Harvick has betting odds listed at 5/2 and four-time NASCAR champion Jeff Gordon is listed at 6/1 to capture the Nextel Cup this year.
Hoping to follow in the footsteps of his legendary father who won six NASCAR titles, Dale Earnhardt Jr. stands at 8/1 to breakthrough with his first Cup victory. Staying with the family theme, MySportsbook.com lists 2005 Rookie of the Year Kyle Busch at 14/1 to succeed big brother Kurt’s 2004 NASCAR title. While Kasey Kahne was the final driver to qualify for the Chase with a third place finish last week, the oddsmakers give him a fighting chance at 10/1 mainly due to several mile-and-a-half tracks remaining on the schedule. Despite going winless on the NASCAR circuit this season, Jeff Burton enters the Chase at 5/1 to capture the Cup title. Meanwhile, rookie Denny Hamlin is 4/1 to win the championship, while veteran driver Mark Martin enters the Chase for the Cup as a 15/1 long shot to win his first NASCAR title in his 24th and final season.
MySportsbook.com will offer comprehensive Nascar betting lines on every race remaining on the Nextel Cup series including driver match-ups, props and odds to win each race. For a complete list of NASCAR odds, please visit www.MySportsbook.com.
